The article deals with the origin of female convent life in Tunja, in the Nuevo Reino de Granada. It will analyze the interest of its founders to achieve the “perpetuity” of it, both from the religious and economic perspective. The convent was destined for the daughters and granddaughters of conquerors and settlers, and because of its precursor status, it was able to obtain a series of advantages that allowed its consolidation as an institution in the rising American society.
